Established in 1840 in the back streets of Peckham in London by Elbert Phunperknickle, Urchin Sweepers has grown from it's initial one man, his dog and two young urchins to the 25 man team of today. True, the roles of the lads involved has changed considerablely, the health and safety executive soon stopped the sending of the smaller workers up the chimneys so now a long stout brush is used to dislodge the soot and waste particles.
